What is Social Justice? Here is a typical definition. There are others with more detail, but they all say much the same:
Social justice is "justice in terms of the distribution of wealth, opportunities, and privileges within a society". Classically, "justice" (especially corrective justice or distributive justice) ensured that individuals both fulfilled their societal roles and received what was their due from society. That is, an elite group decides that wealth must be taken (by force) from a second group and handed to a third group. Ven Fulton J Sheen took a serious interest in social justice. He named it the 'Gospel of Judas'. “Judas became the spokesman of all those who through the centuries would protest the ornamentation of the Christian cult and would feel that, when the best of gold and jewels were given to the God Who made them, there was some slight made to the poor - not because they were interested in the poor, but because they were envious of that wealth.” ― Fulton J. Sheen, Life of Christ A quote from Life of Christ Social Justice and Individual Justice The Patron "Saint" of Social Justice with Our Blessed Lord! • r/Catholicism “Judas Iscariot would be the patron saint of social justice.” -Archbishop Fulton Sheen on those who propagate false compassion and those who ‘care’ for humanity but ignore the truths of God. padre pio - Judas the Patron Saint of Social Justice The Australian bishops produce an enormous amount of material on social justice. Here are some of their statements. Everybody's Business A Place at the Table For Those Who've Come Across the Seas A Crown for Australia Lazarus at our Gate And there is their periodical Justice Trends. Justice Trends - Australian Catholic Social Justice Council All of these documents are heavy on social justice. The purpose of social justice is that one group of people is responsible for the problems of another group of people, with a third group advocating or deciding who pays, who receives and how much. Catholics generally are generous with helping people. But that is not the idea behind social justice. What the advocates promote is that taxes be increased for group one. A group of bureaucrats is then employed at the expense of taxpayers to distribute the tax money to people of its choice. This means that the givers have no say in what happens to their money, which could (and does) end up in the Swiss bank accounts of wealthy foreigners. And those who would normally receive help from the givers are left to remain in poverty. But the advocates of social justice can then virtue-signal how generous they have been. With other people's money. This is why Ven Fulton Sheen condemned it as the gospel of Judas. At Matthew 26:9 Judas says: "This perfume could have been sold at a high price and the money given to thepoor." Judas was a thief. He claimed to worry about the poor. Not so much for souls. Social Justice does much harm. When so many resources are devoted to redistributing the income of others, valuable resources are less devoted to saving souls. For half a century there has been little or no teaching on things like contraception, abortion, Heaven, Hell and sin. We have perhaps two generations who do not seem to know the teachings of the Church on these grave matters, and this includes teachers at Catholic schools. And, unfortunately, priests. The remedy is simple. Get the Church bureaucrats working on producing statements directed at saving souls. Isn't that why Christ gave us the Church?
